Remote Manage Routers, See Connection Status

Is there a way within the admin dashboard to remote connect/manage these dragon routers, as well as see if they are connected/activated/online?

Thanks,
Josh

Appreciate you bringing this up—this is a solid idea.

It’s not something that’s currently available, but I can definitely see the value. I’m going to bring it to the team and look into the technical feasibility. If it’s doable and doesn’t raise any security concerns—which at first glance, it shouldn’t—we’ll work on getting it added to the product development roadmap. We’ll take a serious look at what it would take to build that out.

And if there are any other interfaces or tools you think would be helpful, we’d love to hear about them.

Thank you.

Second this. We are MSP, not purely doing Nomad Wholesale, so we do a lot of managed networks among a huge portfolio of other services. Part of our value-add is we do a lot of that remotely, which saves us money, which saves the customer money.

Being able to configure things such as bridge mode, guest wifi, main wifi and password, etc. etc. would be a huge boon for us.

That’s a great question—thank you for asking.

You can access full control of the device by going to 192.168.0.1 – that’s the admin dashboard where you can manage all the settings like bridge mode, main and guest WiFi, password, and more.

At this time, we don’t have a built-in way on our end to remotely do all those settings. However, there are ways to set it up if that’s something you’d like to do. You’d need to set up a VPN or enable remote management on each router. In some cases, using a dynamic DNS service can also help.

Just a heads-up: if the router is ever hard reset, those custom settings would be wiped, and you’d need to either walk the customer through setting them up again or find another way to reapply them. There’s plenty of good documentation online that explains how to get this working.

That said, we’re working on a solution that will let you monitor and manage this much more easily in the future!

I’m also a small MSP. If you’re looking for an inexpensive option until we know more about this, I would recommend getting something like Connectwise’s ScreenConnect. I think they may have renamed it. This is one of the few that doesn’t require purchasing licenses in bulk unless you get the other add-ons for MSP’s.
grams that doesn’t require buying licenses in bulk.
For those of you who are not familiar with this. It’s a tool that allows you to either do a per session access to a customer computer, or if you are managing their systems, allows you to login instantly as if you were right in front of the computer as long as they are logged in or you have Admin Username and password to login. I wouldn’t recommend doing the second one, but it’s a program that creates a secure connection. You can then open up the client’s browser and ask them for the information on the back of the modem and walk them through everything.
Mind you, even though the tool is great, their customer service is questionable, so I just started switching everything over to Ninja for my managed accounts. There’s quite a few competitor options depending on what you like, but I’ve found this one has less of a learning curve and very good training material. I’ve also reached out to my Account Manager at Ninja to see if they have anything similar and what the cost would be there.

Summary: Using one of these Remote Tools allows you to access the customer’s computer remotely without requiring a heavy install of software and the customer has to put in a code you give them in order for you two to create a connection.

I appreciate the thought, but you misunderstood my question. I was asking about remotely managing routers, not computers.

Other providers that we use allow for remotely managing the routers in the field, this is necessary at scale for an ISP.

Thanks,
Josh
