I just received my first dragon to fiddle with, and had a question for your hands-on results.
Verizon in my testing area is a bit weak, I get a steady (1) bar 5G/4G connection with an occasional spike into the (2-3) bar range on my XC46BE dragon.
Using WiFi or hardwired network (with VPN turned off) I am getting around 100Mbps down and 10Mbps up, and a ping of about 50ms.
For you folks with a steady (3) bar 5G/4G connection, what are your down/up speeds and ping like?
@SCman Glad to hear you got your Dragon modem set up.
Getting 100Mbps down and 10Mbps up with just 1 bar is actually a great start, our network is designed to stay reliable even in areas with weaker signal. Once you’re in a stronger coverage area with 3 bars or more, you should see noticeably faster speeds, smoother streaming, and even lower ping times for things like video calls or gaming.
Let me know how it goes if you test it in another spot, and if you have any questions, I’m here to help!
50ms is actually really good. Most wired connections are usually higher. For professional gaming, anything under 100ms is optimal. The lower the better of course. If you don’t want to mess woth the advanced router settings, download Wifiman in the app store so you can see if the area is saturated with too many signals. With that said, the Dragon does an impressive job of moving through the available bandwidths if there’s any Wifi interference. The app Speedtest by Ookla gives you better details for a full test to compare with competitors. I’m on mobile and dont see the option for screenshots. But I connected to Spectrum Business where I’m at with 300 up and down. Their ping fluctuates from 20ms to 700ms with a 59 Jitter and the speed is inconsistent even though it goes from 150 to 250 Mbps during the test. Which is horrible for both gaming and VOIP phones. The Dragon has been showing me more consistent numbers.
@NexusTechsNV We appreciate you sharing all that info! That really helps. I’m also glad the Dragon is giving you more steady results, it’s what we’re aiming for!
Have you tested it in any other spots yet? Or planning to take it on the road and see how it does in different areas?
I’m planning on taking a drive from Reno, NV to Fallon and Fernley. 30 - 60 min east through mountains and desert to test it out on the drive and showcase it.
Same thing for two other cities that are 2 and 4 hour drives. But that wont be til the weekend of the 18th unless I sell my first batch of modems this week!
That’s a solid plan! I think it’s going to be really cool seeing how it holds up across all those different areas. Hopefully, you get those first few sales in this week so you can get out there sooner. Let us know how it goes, or if you need anything from me to help.
