RADIUS, Chargeable Public, Etc

One of the things we do with all of our customers is that part of contract allows us to deploy chargeable/ hotspot 2.0/ 3GPP SSIDs on the networks we design and build for them.

Our specific use case is that we offload cell traffic onto our networks so that we can essentially “boost cell service” by using their existing WiFi infrastructure. Our customers and their visitors get better cell coverage, the cell carriers get a little bit of load off of their network, and we make a few cents from the cell carriers.

Are there any specific modems that you know of @jaden that have that capability? I would love for an all on one device, but I know that might be a stretch. We deploy and sell a ton of ubiquiti equipment too so I could always throw an AP onto the modem, but then we’re talking about having to have power for the modem, power for the poe injector, and of course the space for it. I’d love to be able to deploy these at some outdoor public spaces but I need a tidy solution.

Any modems you know of that have radius, 3gpp, etc? I know for cell offload it would be cell to cell, but the carriers that want to offload to us are not the carriers that nomad runs on.

@stephenobws The Dragon is a solid choice for your setup. It supports RADIUS integration, WPA2-Enterprise, and advanced SSID configurations, making it suitable for cell traffic offload. You can pair it with UniFi mesh APs like the U6-Mesh to broadcast chargeable or Hotspot 2.0-style SSIDs, with your RADIUS backend handling AAA and session control.

For tidy outdoor deployments, consider housing the Dragon and a PoE injector in a weatherproof enclosure, powered via solar or a compact AC source. This gives you a clean, scalable way to improve coverage while keeping your infrastructure minimal.
